Federal Work-Study (FWS)

Need-Based Grant

Purpose

To provide jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to each student's course of study.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Federal Work-Study, a student must:

  • Demonstrate financial need based on family financial information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current year. Federal Work-Study funds are awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Be accepted or enrolled at least half time as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Be a U. S. citizen, permanent resident alien, or eligible non-citizen.

Value

Wages vary. The Institution establishes the hourly pay rates allowable.

Application Procedure

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some colleges may also require applicants to complete the college's financial aid application.
