Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant

Non-Need Based Grant

Purpose

To assist the dependent children of Georgia law enforcement officers, firefighters, and prison guards who were permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty by providing grant funds toward the cost of attendance at eligible public or private postsecondary institutions in Georgia.

Eligibility

Be the dependent child of a Georgia law enforcement officer, firefighter, or prison guard who was permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty;
Be enrolled in a Georgia public or private college/university or public technical college as a full-time undergraduate student seeking a college degree or technical certificate/diploma;
Be a legal resident of Georgia; 12 months prior to receiving aid;
Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status;
Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;
Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990;
Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program;
Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college.

Value

Recipients receive an award of $2,000 per academic year. The maximum amount is $8,000 for four years of undergraduate study.

Application Procedure

If you believe you are eligible to receive the Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant (LEPD), the following information will assist you:

Complete a Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant application by clicking here.
Once you have completed the application, your college will certify your eligibility to GSFC.
If you have not been approved to participate you will be asked to submit documentation regarding the accident or incident resulting in death or disability to GSFC.
GSFC will notify you by mail when processing is complete and the award is being made.
Renewing eligible students may apply online using GSFAPPS by clicking here.

Other Information

Recipients of the LEPD Grant who attend a public postsecondary institution may also be eligible to receive funds from the Public Safety Memorial Grant program.
